Valley Real Life - The ABCD Journey
How Jesus Changes Our Identity
From knowing what is true to learning to live from it.
Following Jesus is more than learning new information or trying harder to be a better person. Jesus invites us into a real relationship with Him — one where we learn to trust what God says is true, let go of the beliefs that get in the way, and let the Holy Spirit do His work in us.
In Christ, God gives us a new identity. Over time, He teaches us to understand that identity, embrace it personally, and live from it in our everyday choices and relationships.
Identity in Christ — Put On the Truth
Recognize and affirm what God says is true about who you are in Christ — and learn how to understand it, personally embrace it, and live from it.
Competing Beliefs — Put Off What Is False
Recognize the thoughts and beliefs that contradict God's truth, damage your well-being and relationships, and hinder your spiritual growth. These are patterns you can bring to God, challenge with Scripture, and increasingly put off as your mind is renewed.
GOD'S WORD
And you must throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Our identity in Christ
Your security does not depend on your ability to control circumstances or guarantee outcomes. God remains faithful when life feels uncertain. Because you are in Christ, nothing can separate you from His love, and you can entrust your future to His care.
GOD'S WORD
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GOD'S WORD
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

GOD'S WORD
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

Transformation Is a Journey
Knowing these truths is a beginning. Learning to trust them personally and live from them is a journey.
You may understand that your worth comes from God while still measuring yourself by achievement. You may believe God accepts you while still fearing rejection. You may know that God is trustworthy while struggling to surrender control.
These tensions do not mean your faith is false or that you have failed. They are places to become honest with God and invite Him into the process.
As you begin, consider where Jesus may be inviting you to take your next step—not toward becoming someone you have to manufacture, but toward learning to live more fully from who you are in Him.
